PREPARING FOR BABY #2

PREPARING FOR BABY #2

The time is quickly approaching. I can’t believe it, but we’ve hit our half way mark and I’m currently 21 weeks with baby boo 2. Not knowing the gender, it’s been a little hard to prepare, however I’ve started to get things together as best as I can and get my ducks in a row. One of the biggest reasons I’ve started preparing earlier than the first time is because this time around things are a lot busier. I mean having a toddler and preparing for a newborn is just crazy, so hence the jump start. One thing that I’ve found is that we have most of the items from Qaayam, so that’s definitely been a plus. I also learned from the first time around there were things I read I would need, but never ended up using, so we’ll definitely be taking more of a minimalist approach this time.

PREGNANCY UPDATE

I started working on this post back around the 2.5-3 month mark, and since had to revise it a few times. My hope was to get it out much sooner, but let’s be honest, it’s been a chaotic and eventful few months.

To start off, I can’t express how excited and blessed we feel to welcome baby #2 into our little crew. Growing up with two sisters I always knew I wanted to have a family of multiples and I think the most exciting part about this is giving Q the gift of a sibling. He’s been such a sweetheart through the process so far, asking lots of questions, doing lots of belly kisses, and reminding me to take my prenatals, haha! Let’s be real though, I’m preparing myself for all the ups and downs that will come once the baby is physically here.

In terms of how the pregnancy has gone for the last 4 months, well, it’s been a bit of a roller coaster ride. I’ve gotten a lot of questions since we announced and I thought I’d package it all together nicely in a blog post. First off, I want to praise, bow down, and hail all you mamas out there with multiples. The role as a mother of one is already a challenging one. Add in some pregnancy hormones, a ton of nausea, a handful of morning sickness and exhaustion like you’ve never felt before, all while working full time and caring for a toddler, and sums up my first trimester.

A question I get from pretty much everyone I talk to is, “Do you feel different this time around than with Q?” The answer is yes and no. I know for sure that my first trimester with baby #2 compared to my time with Q was way, way more challenging and harder on me mentally and physically. However, I also know there are women that experience it MUCH worse than I have. In terms of how it’s been different…with Q, I never had any morning sickness or mood swings or exhaustion, the only thing I felt was some nausea and that was it. Of course, last time was different as well cause I didn’t have a toddler to look after, so in terms of exhaustion and mood swings I’m sure that plays a role. These past few months I had days where I would literally go to sleep at 8pm and not wake up till 8am, and still wake up feeling like I could sleep for another 10 hours.

One of the most challenging symptoms for me has been the mood swings. When I got pregnant with Q, my husband told me how he was ready for the worst, in terms of the ups and downs in my emotions and the demands. Though it turned out I pleasantly surprised him. This time around it’s been a lot more challenging in terms of managing my moods and emotions. I feel like at the spur of the moment I can burst out into tears or get upset over the smallest things. I am learning every day to manage this and not take on too much , say no to things and take help when it’s offered.

Something else I get asked a lot is, “Do you want another boy or do you want a girl?” In all honesty, I’m pretty indifferent and the reason I know that to be true is because we actually have the envelope with our gender results. We’ve had it since 10 weeks and have not opened it. Don’t get me wrong, in the beginning it was driving me crazy, but as time has gone by, it actually hasn’t been on my mind too much, which makes me realize that boy or girl, I just want this little bug to be healthy and happy. On one side it would be amazing to give Q a brother. I grew up with two sisters and my husband has two brothers, so having same sex siblings would be pretty darn awesome. However, what mama doesn’t want a little girl? It would be just as awesome to see Q with a little sister to watch over. In any case, I feel truly lucky…boy or girl! :)

One last piece I wanted to share is how my body has transformed so much more quickly this time around. I mean that bump showed up pretty darn fast, I’m talking 13-14 weeks, whereas with Q I don’t think I started officially showing till close to 19-20 weeks. My Midwives and OB have been told me that you can show a lot earlier the second time around. Needless to say, those jeans of mine have been collecting dust for a few weeks now and I’ve had to change my wardrobe quite quickly. Some of the items that I’ve had on repeat, Lululemon Align Pant , Urban Outfitters Out from Under Shirt, Dwell + Slumber Cacoon Caftan Dress and Smash + Tess Romper. Now I’m on the hunt for some good maternity jeans, please send your recommendations! :)

All in all, the journey so far as been one of gratitude and truly a wonderful gift for our family that we are ever so thankful for. I know having a baby doesn’t come easily to everyone, so I really wanted to end off by saying, to anyone out there who is trying for a baby, my hopes and prayers are with you. I’m sending all of our baby fairy dust your way!

xx

WHY I BLOG

WHY I BLOG

Recently I had someone ask me..."why do you do this?"  Why do I share my life so openly, why do I share my journey of motherhood, why I blog and Instagram.  For a second it threw me off guard because I was in a time where the haters and the lack of support and negativity were at a high, and my initial thought was "yah why the heck am I doing this?"  Then I sat back and the clarity set it in.

STYLEZ: SPRING FASHION

The wait for spring seems to have been a daunting one.  But this past week has proven that Spring has officially sprung and damn does it feel good to see that sun.  I always love the transition from fall/winter to spring/summer, but who doesn't right?  More warmth, more outdoor time and the cute AF clothing that comes with it.  I started taking out some of that spring/summer wear this past weekend, as well as got some peeks to some super cute SS18 lines coming out.  So Mama's....time to get your online shopping carts filled, I'm sharing some of our favorite Spring fashion below.

1. Haven Kids Clothing

Haven Kids clothing is one of my new favorite local shops and their spring line is so darn adorable.  The neutral and minimal color scheme is just up my ally.  My favorite spring item that I can't wait to get Q into are the overalls.  The drop crotch style can be perfectly paired with a long or short sleeve tee for the cooler spring days, and will be an awesome transition to those hot summer days where he won't need to wear any shirt underneath.  They have a 3 button holes allowing for just the right fit when adjusting.  This is sure to be on repeat for us.

Jax & Lennon

Jax & Lennon's Desert Collection had me in all kinds of a craze, so I'm super pumped now that the SS18 Palm Oasis line has dropped.  We're talking light neutrals, florals and little something for the Mama's.

For our transition we've gotten Q already jumping around in his Black Pocket Romper and pair it with a soft hoodie or bomber over it till the tempretures gets a little warmer.  My favorite thing about Jax & Lennon is their minimalist vibe.  It's simple, yet always has people asking where I got "so and so item from."  The wooden buttons on the romper and their tee's make for such a

MOMENTS

MOMENTS

Moments.  We all need a moment sometimes.  A moment to breathe, a moment to feel, and a moment to just be...be you without feeling any responsibility in the world.  I've said it before and I'll say it again, motherhood is the most exhausting yet best thing that's ever happened to me.  I truly wouldn't trade it for anything in the world, even on my most horrible days.  One of the things, I've felt, that has brought me comfort and sanity is taking time for me; to grow as an individual and just for a few moments "not be a mom."  I mean those last few words in the most respectful way.  I truly have come to learn that when I take these moments for myself, I come back feeling refreshed, happier, energized and with more love in my heart for my family than ever!  Since I've dedicated 2018 to NURTURING, it has to start with nurturing myself; my body, my mind and my heart, so in turn I can nurture the relationships and roles I carry in this world. So here are some of the top moments I take for myself that bring clarity and joy in my motherhood journey.

FAVORITES: MODERN MAMA ESSENTIAL OILS

FAVORITES: MODERN MAMA ESSENTIAL OILS

I've never been a big essential oil user and never quite understood the hype but was constantly hearing of people living by them regularly and incorporating them into their lives in many different ways.   I decided to give them a try with some pure high quality oils for myself and my family.  This transition happened for us shortly after Q was diagnosed with asthma a few months back.  I received a lot of feedback from my followers and co-workers regarding the use of essential oils to manage asthma and was very curious about this natural approach.

With lots of education and knowledge shared by experts and people who have seen significant improvements in their health with the use of them, we started incorporating them into our life.  We haven't taken the full pledge of diffusing and rolling every day, but we're down that path.

2018 #MOMGOALS

2018 #MOMGOALS

It's my first post of 2018 and I want to make it a strong and memorable one.  I recently shared on my Instagram a bit of my reflections on 2017, including the good and the bad.  I also mentioned that I have set goals for 2018 but will be keeping them mainly to myself and my most trusted and supportive group of people, who I know will push me through to succeed and hold me accountable in a positive way.   As the first few days of 2018 have gone by I've really been thinking about those goals, which are primarily focused on my own asspirations for myself. But it made me dig a bit deeper and also create another branch of goals....#momgoals and these I want to share with you all.

THINGS I SWORE I'D NEVER DO AS A PARENT

THINGS I SWORE I'D NEVER DO AS A PARENT

I remember the days of post baby mentality when I thought I had it all figured out.  I had a laundry list of items I swore I was never going to do as a parent.  TV....nope, Sweets....heck no, Fast Food....over my dead body!  I told myself these were non-negotiable and our kiddo was gonna get fresh cooked healthy meals every day with all dem' veggies and protein with a structured schedule and sleep routine.  It all sounds super easy and I'm not saying its impossible.  There are definitely some parents that can make it happen and I bow down to you for that.  However, it doesn't always happen or work for everyone and what I want to say to that is, IT IS OK!

I'm not saying all the things I wanted to be as a parent were thrown out the window once the time came.  It just didn't work for us and particularly me to be as consistent as I had hoped and I've learned to accept that it doesn't make me a bad parent.

I feel like every step of being your mom has been a learning experience and comes with it's challenges and joys.  These past 12 months have had moments of pure chaos and moments of pure bliss!  I have a new favorite moment everyday because with each day your personality is starting to shine through more and more.

SHOP LOCAL: HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE

SHOP LOCAL: HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE

The holiday season is upon us and I couldn't be more excited.  For me, this time about family and oooing and ahhhing over all the beautiful Christmas sparkle and decor.

When it comes to gift giving, my family hasn't always observed this traditoin, though over the last few years, we've incorporated it into our morning.  We typically set limits and its a fun activity and way to show appreciation for each other as we don't do gifts any other time of the year.

Some find it tough to buy gifts for babies, toddlers and even mama's not knowing where to start. So I'm rounding up my favorite items from some of my favorite local shops.  I love supporting local shops and seeing the passion and love that goes into the products/services they have to offer, and the best part, you can beat the mall rushes and shop online!!!

WE RISE BY LIFTING OTHERS

WE RISE BY LIFTING OTHERS

We live in a world where social media rules communication, sharing experiences and providing a new age of community.  Social media has a lot to offer; an awesome platform to express your thoughts and connect with like-minded people that you may not have met otherwise.  These platforms have helped me navigate through pregnancy and the different stages of motherhood from getting advice to receiving unbelievable support on my good days and my not so good days.  But with every good, there is a nasty right?  You would hope not, especially when it came to motherhood and I totally thought this would not apply to this topic, because in all honesty, how many of us actually know what we're doing to a tee?  My life in general, and especially as a mom, is far from perfect.  It amazes me to see how a platform that can be so inspiring and positive can also bring out such negativity, judgement and competitiveness. Sometimes I read comments mom's receive and just want to shout out, "WHERE IS THE LOVE PEOPLE?"

FAVORITES: GROW YOUR HEART

FAVORITES: GROW YOUR HEART

Have you ever listened to something and instantly felt chills and butterflies?  This is exactly the feeling I got when I heard the sounds of my beautiful friend Jess Schellenberg's new EP "Grow Your Heart."  Jess is the owner and creative mind behind Chorus and Clouds and she just released her new album that she's been working on for a number of years.  The wait was long to finally hear the magic, but boy was it worth it.  The music and songs are perfection and what I like best is that it's an indie folk genre, which is unique for children's music.  I listen to it even when Q is not around, so it's really made for the love of everyone!

STYLEZ: FALL FASHION

STYLEZ: FALL FASHION

'll be the first to admit, I'm not a huge fan of fall/winter, or summer ending.  The change in mood and weather for this transition from summer to fall in Vancouver came fast and furious.  I'm not even sure you can call it a transition, it was like a light switch turned off summer one day.  The clouds came rolling in, the sun had disappeared and there was a chill in the air.  NOT A FAN!!  Though, there has been one highly anticipated thing about fall that I have been looking forward to; the fashion.  The new collections that have come out for little ones have got me on a bit of a spree.

TIPS FOR RAISING A READER

TIPS FOR RAISING A READER

If you don't know me already, it's pretty obvious I LOVE to read.  There's nothing quite like walking into Indigo and seeing shelves upon shelves of books, I could spend hours, if not a full day there.  So when I learned I was pregnant, my love for books grew even more, if that's even possible.  The thought that I will now be able to share some of my favorite children's classics with my new addition and also embark on new reads, brought a smile to my face.

A LETTER FOR Q

A LETTER FOR Q

Dear Q,

How do I even begin?

When you came into my world you showed me a love I could never have imagined. From the time you took your first step and spoke your first word, I was right next to you rooting it on.  Every milestone you reached, I felt was a day of celebration and wanted to shout off the rooftops, (and I probably did on IG).  You, my sweet boy Q, have taught me the true meaning of unconditional love!

FAVORITES: CHORUS & CLOUDS

I was introduced to Chorus and Clouds by a fellow mama who I attended a music class with at the Mount Pleasant Community Center.  Her exact words, "you've never heard of Chorus and Clouds....you have to come today at 1:30 for Meet Ups!"

This angelic space is creative, bright, full of natural light and a mama and baby's dream!  The owner, Jess was welcoming before I could even step foot into the room.  She came out to show me where and how to park my stroller for the easiest access and took time to get to know me and Qaayam on a personal level.  She took the time to explain what the purpose of the space is and it was so nice to see her welcoming each mama and child as they walked in.

GIRLS WEEKEND: EVERY MAMA NEEDS IT

GIRLS WEEKEND: EVERY MAMA NEEDS IT

This past weekend I chose to step outta of my mom zone and take a weekend for me and my girls and jet off to Scottsdale, AZ.  I always promised myself to stay true to myself once I became and mom, and though Q (and future kids) will always be priority number one now, I make a big effort to keep my marriage and personal friendships not far behind that. For most moms (and dads for that matter), just because we became parents doesn't mean we have forgotten what sparks our interests.  I've found that still focusing on my relationships and my needs has made me a better mom for Q.

THE FIRST FRIENDSHIP: BABY BESTIES

THE FIRST FRIENDSHIP: BABY BESTIES

There is nothing like seeing two little babes grow and encounter this world together.  Some may call it a forced encounter or friendship, and I'd have to agree, that at first it completely is.  As time goes on though, and you see the bond that forms between the two,  you can't help but pat yourself on the back for pushing two little kiddies towards baby bestie-hood.
